The second phase of our consultation is the design of a standards compliant voice, data, and cable TV cabling system. The cabling design is delivered as a detailed cabling design specification and conduit plan. These documents allow the cabling system and related conduits to be opened for bid to qualified contractors early during the construction process without sacrificing the quality of the work or the control of the IT staff.
|
Phase typically includes:
- Review of Architect's plans to inspect locations of all voice and data jacks throughout new office space.
- Meetings with telephone and IT personnel to ascertain cabling requirements and to review jack configuration and placement.
- Meetings with building engineers to determine location of telephone company feeds, CATV feeds, and status of existing building wiring closets, riser cabling, and riser conduits.
- Thorough review of Architect's construction documents to evaluate partitions and ceiling configurations and their effect upon cabling distribution.
- Creation of conduit plan to allow efficient routing of cable through obstructions and to allow future cabling upgrades after walls are in place
- Evaluation of currently available cabling technologies and a cost-benefit analysis of Category 3, Category 5, Category 5e, Category 6 (latest draft), and Category 7 (latest draft) cabling as it applies to current technology usage and expected future needs.
- Creation of a cabling design including types and quantities of cabling and jacks to be used for voice and data workstations, backbone links between floors, cross connection between workstation and backbone cabling, and uplinks to telephone company/CATV feeds.
- Creation of CAD drawing for engineers and architects showing jack and conduit placement and sizing, and detailing of relevant EIA/TIA specifications.
- Preparation of detailed Request for Quote (RFQ) specifying exact materials and installation methods to allow general contractor to obtain bids from cabling contractors for voice and data cabling.
